There has been a lot of questions throughout society about anxiety, including is anxiety a disability? Before we answer this question, we need to ask ourselves, what is a disability? According to the dictionary a disability is considered a physical or mental condition that limits a person’s movements, senses, or activities. The answer to this question is depends on the level of anxiety a person experiences.
One person may only have slight levels of anxiety that may not greatly impair their ability to function on a job or school. Another person may have anxiety so severe that they are not able to maintain and function while on a job. According to https://www.disabilitysecrets.com/topics/anxiety-disorders a person only qualifies for disability benefits if their anxiety causes such a severe impact on their social functioning, their ability to take care of themselves independently, and their ability to concentrate and completely tasks.
Based on the examples above, Anxiety can be a disability. If anxiety is at the point where it is debilitating and greatly interfering with the quality of life a person may decide to apply for disability. Anxiety can be crippling at times for some people. Others may decide to pursue varies types of treatment before going the disability route.
